Self-Schema

Self-Esteem
The evaluative aspect of the self-concept where individuals feel either worthy or unworthy.
Sociometer Theory
The concept that self-esteem monitors the likelihood of social exclusion.
Reflected Appraisal
The process by which individuals learn about themselves through the perceptions of others.
Dark Triad
A group of three personality traits: Narcissism, Machiavellianism, and Psychopathy.
Narcissism
Characterized by grandiosity, entitlement, and a sense of superiority.
Machiavellianism
Involves deception, manipulation, and prioritizing personal gain.
Psychopathy
Defined by a lack of empathy and remorse.
Light Triad
A set of personality traits including Humanism, Kantianism, and Faith in Humanity.
Humanism
Seeing value in all people.
Kantianism
Believing in moral principles and respecting individuals.
Faith in Humanity
The belief that people are fundamentally good.
Positive Illusions
Unrealistically favorable beliefs about oneself, including the better-than-average effect.
Social Comparison
The process of evaluating oneself against others, often favoring comparisons with those perceived as worse (downward comparison).
Self-Serving Bias
The tendency to attribute personal successes to oneself and failures to external factors.
