  • outermost layer

  • “tough mother”- tough and fibrous

  • loose fitting bag; not adhered to the skull except at the floor of the cranial cavity

  • 2 large projecting sheets of dura

    • Falx cerebri: separates 2 hemispheres in sagittal plane

    • Tentorium cerebelli: separates occipital lobe from cerebellum in horizontal plane

  • space between dura and skill = epidural space
