Motivation
A psychological process that energizes, directs, and sustains behaviors.
Drive-Reduction Theory
A theory that motivation arises from biological needs, aiming to reduce discomfort.
Arousal Theory
A theory suggesting that people seek an optimal level of arousal for best performance.
Yerkes-Dodson Law
Moderate arousal leads to the best performance; too much or too little arousal can hinder performance.
Need
A state of deficiency that can be biological, social, or psychological.
Maslow’s Need Hierarchy
Maslow’s arrangement of needs, where basic survival needs must be met before higher needs can be satisfied.
Homeostasis
The tendency for bodily functions to maintain equilibrium.
Extrinsic Motivation
Motivation to perform an activity due to external goals associated with that activity.
Intrinsic Motivation
Motivation to perform an activity due to the value or pleasure associated with that activity.
Self-efficacy
The expectation that one's efforts will lead to success.
Grit
Deep passion for goals and willingness to work towards them despite hardships.
SMART Goals
Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Timely goals to enhance motivation and success.
