CRM (Crew Resource Management)

A framework for a team and leader to communicate and work together effectively.

PACE

A mnemonic communication framework used when a problem arises, representing Probe, Alert, Challenge, and Emergency.

Probe

The initial step in the PACE process where you look or ask questions to confirm a potential problem.

Alert

The step in the PACE process where you formally communicate the observed problem to the leader.

Challenge

The step in the PACE process where, if the issue is not corrected, you suggest a specific plan to fix it.

Emergency

The final step in the PACE process used when a problem is clear and critical, requiring immediate emergency communication.

Infectious Disease

An illness caused by germs that leads to infection.

OSHA

Occupational Safety and Health Administration; an agency providing guidelines and recommendations for airborne pathogen precautions.

Immunization

The process of being properly vaccinated to protect oneself from contracting specific infectious diseases.

Fomites

Inanimate objects that can carry and transmit infectious pathogens.

Vector Borne

Disease transmission occurring via organisms such as mosquitoes, fleas, or ticks.

Body Fluid Contamination Protocol

Removing contaminated clothing ASAP, taking a shower if fluids reach the skin through clothing, and cleaning affected clothes in hot water.

Airborne Pathogen Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Equipment recommendations including disposable surgical masks placed on coughing/sneezing patients, N95 masks for responders, and cleanable goggles or disposable face shields.
