Manners of Death
The general classification of how a person died, which falls into four possible categories: natural causes, homicide, accidental death, and suicide.
Natural Causes
A manner of death that occurs when the body ceases to function of its own accord or due to medical factors such as terminal illness, heart disease, or similar conditions.
Homicide
A manner of death defined as the taking of one human life by another human being by means of premeditated murder.
Accidental Death
The death of an individual brought about by means other than natural death, murder, or suicide.
Manslaughter
A type of accidental death involving an involuntary act of violence towards another person that results in death.
Suicide
The deliberate taking of one's own life due to extreme emotional distress, often brought about by severe depression.
Cause of Death
The specific disease or injury reason for a person's death that produces the physiological disruption inside the body resulting in death (e.g., a gunshot wound).
Mechanism of Death
The specific body system failure that leads directly to death (e.g., blood loss, cardiac arrest).
