Element

A PURE substance that CANNOT be separated or broken down into simpler substances by PHYSICAL or CHEMICAL means

Compound

A substance made up of atoms of 2 or more DIFFERENT ELEMENTS joined by chemical bonds

Atom

The SMALLEST UNIT of an element that maintains the properties of that element. Made up on PROTONS, NEUTRONS, and ELECTRONS.

Periodic Table of Elements

An ordered arrangement of chemical ELEMENTS into rows and columns based on shared chemical properties

Proton

The POSITIVELY charged particle of an atom found in the NUCLEUS of an atom

Chemical symbol

One, two, or three LETTERS that represent the name of a chemical element

Molecule

A group of ATOMS that are held together by chemical forces. They are the SMALLEST unit of a compound that keeps all the properties of that compound

Chemical change

When a substance changes into a DIFFERENT substance(s) due to a CHEMICAL reaction

Oxidation

A CHEMICAL reaction that happens when a substance comes in contact with OXYGEN ***Rusting or an apple turning brown!***

Solubility

The ability for a substance to DISSOLVE

Equilibrium

When the amount of solute is EQUAL to the amount of solvent, the perfect mixture! :)

Solution

A mixture in which a substance DISSOLVES
