What is an isotope?
Different atoms of the same element that have the same number of protons but different numbers of neutrons
This means they have the same atomic/proton number, but a different mass/nucleon number
What is the symbol for an isotope?
The symbol for an isotope is the chemical symbol (or word) followed by a dash and then the mass number

Why do isotopes share chemical properties?
They have the same number of valence electrons, which is what determines an element’s chemical properties
The only thing that changes is the mass/nucleon number, which determines their physical properties (such as boiling point), therefore they have different physical properties
