- heat acid in water bath

- add the base in excess

- a soluble salt and water should form

- filter off excess solid and obtain filtrate (should consist of soluble salt and water)

- heat solution gently using a Bunsen burner to evaporate off water

- leave solution to cool

- allow salt to crystallise

- filter off solid salt and let it dry
