Art as an ability

“art is the skill of man to make things beautiful and stirring; it is imagination and creativity”

Art as a product

“art is the completed work or final output”

Art as a process

“art involves activities creating pictures and unforgettable works”

Art

• focuses on the individual process of creating something meaningful, beautiful, or expressive.

• It can refer to both the creative act itself (the process) and the finished work (the product).

Ars

the word art comes from this ancient Latin word which means “craft or specialized form of skill, like carpentry or something or surgery”

Medieval Latin

Ars here means “any special form of book learning, such as grammar or logic, magic, or astrology”

Aesthetics

it means the study of beauty

Fine Arts

this would come to mean "not delicate or highly skilled arts, but 'beautiful' arts"

Art History

The study of the evolution of artistic forms andideas in differentcultures across time.

Art Appreciation

The knowledge and understanding of the universal and timeless qualities that identify all great art.

Iliad

• is an epic poem about the Greek conquest of the city of Troy. It is from Greece, written by Homer, and discusses the adventures of the Greek people of their time.

• It is the oldest and most popular work in Greek literature.

Odyssey

• is one of two major ancient Greek epic poems attributed to Homer. It is, in part,a sequel to the lliad, the other Homeric epic.

• is fundamental to the modern Western canon; it is the second-oldest extant work of Western literature, while the lliad is the oldest.

Indigenous Arts

art of the ancestors existed in the form of dance, painting, music, and poetry accompanied by ancient rituals

Cave paintings and drawings

are believed to reflect ancient religion, beliefs and visions

Artworks

are made from durable materials like metals, stone, clay, bone, and glass survived longer than artworks made from wood
