Male
The basic sign for the male consists of grasping the imaginary brim of a hat with four fingers and thumb.
Female
The basic sign for the female consists of moving the right “A” along the right cheek toward the chin.
IDEA: Represents the old-fashioned bonnet string.
Woman
Make “FEMALE” sign and then bring the flat hand, palm down, away from the face at level of cheek.
IDEA: indicating the height of the woman.
Girl
Same sign as for “WOMAN” but the right hand is brought lower to indicate smaller stature.
Man
Make “MALE” sign and then bring the flat hand, palm down, away from the head at level of hat.
Boy
Same sign as for “MAN” but right hand is brought lower, to indicate smaller stature.
Lady
Make “FEMALE” sign; then make sign for “FINE” (Thumb against chest with fingers open, palm facing left, moving out and slightly down). (4)
Gentleman
Make “MALE” sign; then make the sign for “FINE”
Idea: Man with a ruffle, as worn by gentleman in years past.
Mother
