What are characters in a narrative?
The persons, animals, or creatures that portray a specific role in the story.
Who is the Protagonist?
The 'Good Guy' of the story.
Who is the Antagonist?
The 'Villain' of the story.
What is a Dynamic Character?
A type of character that undergoes an important inner change or personality.
What is a Static Character?
A type of character that undergoes little or no inner change; the character does not develop his/her personality.
What is Characterization?
The way in which the author shows the personality of the characters; the technique that the author uses to let the characters come to life.
What is Direct Characterization?
Directly states the personality of the characters.
What is Indirect Characterization?
Implicitly describes the personality of the characters through Speech, Thoughts, Effect on others, Actions, Looks (STEAL).
What is the Setting of a story?
Describes when and where the story occurred; helps build the background and create images; helps in setting the tone and mood of the story.
What details can be included for the Setting?
Scenery, Time of Day, Location
What are the plot elements?
Exposition, Conflict, Climax, Falling Action, Resolution
