Core
The innermost zone of Earth’s interior, made mainly of iron and nickel, with a liquid outer layer.
Mantle
The layer above the core, consisting of magma, the asthenosphere, and the solid upper mantle.
Lithosphere
The outermost layer of Earth, consisting of the upper mantle and crust.
Plate Tectonics
The theory that states that the Earth's plates are in constant motion.
Divergent Boundary
A tectonic plate boundary where two plates move away from each other, leading to seafloor spreading.
Convergent Boundary
A tectonic plate boundary where one plate collides with another, leading to subduction.
Transform Boundary
A tectonic plate boundary where plates move sideways past each other, leading to faults.
Richter Scale
A logarithmic scale used to measure the intensity of earthquakes.
Hot Spot
An area where molten material from the mantle reaches the lithosphere, often resulting in volcanic activity.
Ring of Fire
The area around the Pacific Ocean known for a high level of tectonic activity, including earthquakes and volcanoes.
