What is photolysis?
Splitting water using light in photosynthesis (H2O → H2 + O₂ + e⁻)
What is NADPH?
An electron carrier used in photosynthesis
What is anaerobic respiration?
Respiration that occurs without oxygen
Where does anaerobic respiration occur?
Cytoplasm
What is produced during anaerobic respiration?
Small amounts of ATP and lactic acid or ethanol + CO₂
What are the two types of fermentation?
Lactic acid fermentation and alcoholic fermentation
What is lactic acid fermentation?
Anaerobic process that makes ATP without oxygen and produces lactic acid (common in muscle cells and some bacteria)
What is the order of cellular respiration reactions?
Glycolysis → Pyruvate oxidation → Krebs cycle → Electron transport chain
Where do light-dependent reactions occur?
Thylakoid membrane
Where does the Calvin cycle occur?
Stroma
What is alcoholic fermentation?
Anaerobic process in yeast and some cells that makes ATP without oxygen and produces ethanol and carbon dioxide
What is an exergonic reaction?
A reaction that releases energy (energy leaves the system). Cellular respiration is exergonic.
What is an endergonic reaction?
A reaction that requires energy input (energy is absorbed). Photosynthesis (Calvin cycle) is endergonic.
Which process is exergonic: photosynthesis or cellular respiration?
Cellular respiration
Which process is endergonic: photosynthesis or cellular respiration?
Photosynthesis
