Dilation producing a Reduction
A transformation that results in an image smaller than the original pre-image, often occurring when the scale factor is between 0 and 1 such as 31 or 21.
Dilation producing an Enlargement
A transformation that results in an image larger than the original pre-image, occurring when the scale factor is greater than 1 such as 2 or 4.
Scale Factor
The ratio used to multiply the coordinates of the original figure to find the image vertices; examples include 2, 4, 5, 31, 21, and 41.
Image Vertices
The coordinates of a figure after a transformation, denoted with prime notation such as A′, B′, and C′.
Similarity
The relationship between two-dimensional figures where one can be obtained from the other by a sequence of rotations, reflections, translations, and dilations.
