Procedure

In the ascending condition, participants were asked to estimate the value of 1×2×3×4×5×6×7×8 in 5 seconds. In the descending condition, participants were asked to estimate the value of 8×7×6×5×4×3×2×1 in 5 seconds. The researchers hypothesized that in the ascending condition, they would estimate it to be lower than the estimates from the descending condition.

The researchers found their hypothesis to be correct, AG had a median of 512, DG had a median of 2250. The actual value is 40,320.
