Online Safety
Refers to the practices and precautions observed when using the Internet to ensure users, computers, and personal information are safe from crimes associated with Internet use.
Cyberbullying
Directly happens when someone is intentionally abused, harassed, and mistreated by another person or group using electronic communication.
Identity Theft
A crime of stealing personal information for the purpose of assuming that person’s name or identity to make any form of transactions.
Cyber Stalking
A criminal practice where electronic communication is used to stalk or harass an individual or group.
Sexting
The act of sending sexually explicit text messages, images, and videos.
Malware
Also known as ‐Malicious Software‐; a software designed to attack, control and damage a device's security and infrastructure systems.
Virus
A malicious program that replicates itself by copying itself to another program.
Trojan Horse
A malicious program that is disguised as a legitimate program that a user will accept and use but takes control of the computer.
Worm
A malicious program that copies itself and spreads to other computers.
Spyware
A malicious program that gathers information from a victim’s computer and sends it back to the hacker.
Adware
An unwanted advertisement that pops-up several times on a victim’s computer, behaves abnormally, and is tedious to close.
Keylogger
A program that runs in the background and steals user credentials and confidential information by recording every keystroke a user makes on the PC.
Botnet
A collection of infected internet–connected devices such as PCs and mobile phones that are controlled by a common type of malware.
Rootkit
Software tools used by hackers to gain control over a computer on a network without being exposed.
Ransomware
A ransom virus that blocks the user from accessing programs or files and demands payment through online methods for the removal of the virus.
Spam
Also known as junk email or unwanted email sent by an advertiser or bot; it can be used to send malware.
Phishing
A cyberattack method using deceptive emails and websites to acquire sensitive personal information.
Cybercrime
A crime in which a computer is used as an object and tool in committing offenses such as hacking, phishing, spamming, child pornography, libel, hate crimes, and identity theft.
Vishing
A cyberattack where scammers use phone calls or voice messages to trick individuals into revealing personal info.
Internet Scam
A type of scam that misleads the user to cheat them of their money or personal property through fabricated promises and confidence tricks.
Love Scam
A type of fraud where a criminal uses a fake online identity to gain a victim’s affection and trust to extort money or steal personal information.
