Elements of Hair Design
Include line, form, space, design texture, and color.
Principles of Art and Design
Include proportion, balance, rhythm, emphasis, and harmony.
Facial Types
Include oval, round, square, triangular, oblong, diamond, and inverted triangle.
pH Scale
Ranges from 0 to 14, where 7 is neutral, below 7 is acidic, and above 7 is alkaline.
Soft Water
Rainwater or chemically softened water that contains only small amounts of minerals and, therefore, allows soap and shampoo to lather freely.
Hard Water
Water that contains minerals that reduce the ability of soap or shampoo to lather.
Reference Points
Points on the head that mark where the surface of the head changes or the behavior of the hair changes, such as the parietal ridge, occipital bone, apex, and four corners.
Haircutting Tools
Include haircutting shears, texturizing shears, razors, clippers, trimmers, sectioning clips, and various combs.
Parts of a Shear
Include finger tang, finger hole, bumper, thumb hole, pivot and adjustment area, and cutting edge.
Wet Hairstyling Tools
Include combs, brushes, rollers, pins, clips, and clamps.
Pin Curl Parts
Consist of the base, stem, and curl/circle.
Styling Products
Include foam, gels, liquid gels, straightening gels, volumizers, pomade, silicone, hairspray, and thermal protection products.
