Cultural Adaptation
The process of adjusting behaviors, communication, and practices to fit cultural expectations and align with the cultural norms of others.
Cultural Competence
The ability to understand, communicate, and interact effectively with people from different cultural backgrounds through awareness, knowledge, skills, and attitude.
Ethnocentrism
The belief that one's own culture is superior to others.
Language Differences
A cultural barrier caused by miscommunication due to vocabulary, accents, or idioms.
Stereotyping
The act of assuming specific traits about an individual based on their nationality or ethnicity.
Cultural Intelligence (CQ)
A multidimensional construct consisting of Cognitive, Emotional/Motivational, and Behavioral interest and interest in functioning in multicultural settings.
Cognitive CQ
Knowledge of cultural norms, values, and practices.
Behavioral CQ
The ability to adapt verbal and non-verbal actions appropriately in different cultural contexts.
Race
Socially constructed categories based on physical traits.
Ethnicity
Shared cultural traits, language, traditions, and ancestry.
Bias
A preference or prejudice that affects an individual's judgment.
Discrimination
Unfair treatment provided to individuals based on their identity.
Sex
Biological traits that distinguish individuals.
Gender
Social roles and expectations associated with being male, female, or other identities.

Also known as the Magna Carta of Women; it ensures gender equality and protection for marginalized women.

The Anti-Sexual Harassment Act which penalizes harassment and requires the establishment of reporting mechanisms.

Intersectionality
The concept that overlapping identities (e.g., age, LGBTQ+ identity, socioeconomic status) shape unique experiences of privilege or discrimination.
Diversity
The presence of differences within a given setting.
Equity
The practice of ensuring fair treatment and access for all individuals.
Inclusion
The state of feeling welcomed and valued within an organization or environment.
Cultural Barriers
Obstacles to effective communication arising from differences in cultural background, values, beliefs, and practices.
Cross-cultural exchange
The mutual sharing of traditions, languages, values, customs, and beliefs to promote collaboration.
Interdependence Conflicts
Workplace disputes that arise when tasks rely on others' cooperation or output.
High power-distance
A cultural orientation where individuals avoid questioning managers and respect strict hierarchy, common in the Philippines and India.
Low power-distance
A cultural orientation where open debate is encouraged and authority is viewed more horizontally, common in Denmark and the Netherlands.
