Range of Motion (ROM)
The extent and direction in which a joint can move.
Active Free ROM
Test where the patient moves the joint actively while the tester observes.
Passive ROM
Test where the tester moves the joint through its full range of motion without patient effort.
Muscle Length Testing
Assessment to determine the extensibility and flexibility of a muscle or muscle group.
End Feel
The sensation felt at the end of a joint's range of motion, typically assessed for abnormalities.
Flexibility Assessment
Evaluation of the range of motion around joints to identify movement restrictions.
Length-Tension Relationship
Concept describing how muscle force generation is affected by muscle length.
Force-Velocity Relationship
Relationship that explains how muscle contraction velocity affects the force produced.
Muscle Imbalances
Discrepancies in muscle length or strength that can lead to dysfunction.
Goniometer
Instrument used to measure joint angles and assess range of motion.
Manual Muscle Testing (MMT)
Clinical method for assessing the strength of a muscle by applying resistance.
One-Repetition Maximum (1RM) Testing
Test to determine the maximum weight a person can lift for one repetition.
Isometric Contraction
Muscle contraction without joint movement.
Isotonic Contraction
Muscle contraction with joint movement.
Neuromuscular Disorders
Medical conditions affecting muscle strength and control.
Palpation
Manual assessment process to feel for muscle tension or abnormalities.
Hamstring Flexibility Test
Assessment involving leg raising to evaluate hamstring extensibility.
Client Check-In
Process of confirming client comfort and understanding during assessments.
Painful Assessment Result
Indicates discomfort or abnormal responses during muscle testing.
Hypertrophy
Increase in muscle size, typically due to strength training.
Atrophy
Decrease in muscle size due to disuse or other medical conditions.
Trigger Points
Tight knots in muscles that can cause pain and restricted movement.
Chronic Pain Management
Strategies used to alleviate long-term pain through muscle assessment and intervention.
Muscle Strength Testing
Process of assessing the force-generating capability of muscle groups.
Functional Range of Motion
The range within which a muscle can generate optimal force.
Scar Tissue
Fibrous tissue that forms as part of the healing process after an injury.
Assessing Muscle Length
Evaluating the distance between a muscle's origin and insertion during movement.
Joint Assessment
Evaluation of joint health, stability, and function.
Strength Assessment Findings
Results obtained from evaluating muscle strength which may indicate dysfunction.
Hypomobile Muscles
Muscles that have reduced range of motion, often requiring lengthening techniques.
Strengthening Techniques
Exercises designed to enhance muscle strength and function.
