Ezért aztán, tyúkanyó, hát

Mother hen, your regal highness

Jól megbecsűlje kend magát

Appreciate your social status

Iparkodjék, ne legyen ám

Do your part so my own mother

Tojás szűkében az anyám

Never lacks for eggs for supper

Dehogy verik, dehogy verik

Not in the least! Not in the least!

Mint a galambot etetik

Like a dove they feed the old beast

Válogat a kendermagban

Pick your way through finest of seeds

A kiskirály sem él jobban

Royalty, your living exceeds

Itt szaladgál föl és alá

Running to and fro with no rest

Még a ládára is fölszáll

Perching on the old linen chest

Eszébe jut, kotkodácsol

Clucking to your heart’s content

S nem verik ki a szobából

With no fear of banishment

Ej, mi a kő! Tyúkanyó, kend

Mother hen, dear! Pray tell what gives?

A szobában lakik itt bent?

Have we moved indoors your highness?

Lám, csak jó az isten, jót ád

Look how generous the Lord is

Hogy fölvitte a kend dolgát!
