where does the light dependant stage take place?
in the granum
Stage 1 -photolysis of H2O
H2O is broken down via an enzyme in PS2
broken down into H+, 2e and oxygen produced is used in respiration
the enzymes trap light energy for photolysis
Stage 2 - cyclic phosphorylation
Oxygen produced in stage 1 is used to produce ARP
ADP + Pi = ATP (using sunlight)
Stage 3- Formation of NADH
the coenzyme NAD is reduced into NADH ( by adding 2 H+ ions)
What happens is respiration rate < photosynthesis
this leads to an oxygen build-up and oxygen leaves the plant via the stroma
Products of the light dependant stage
NADPH
ATP
