Koch's postulates
The suspected pathogen must be present in every case of the disease studied, but not in healthy individuals.
The microbe must be isolated from a diseased organism and grown in a pure culture, meaning only that specific microbe is present.
The isolated microbe must be introduced into a healthy susceptible host, causing the same disease symptoms as seen in the original infected organism.
The microbe must be re-isolated from the newly infected host and identified as the same microbe originally isolated from the diseased organism.
