Nichomachean Ethics (NE/EN)
Article on the nature of moral life and human happiness based on the unique essence of human nature.
Instrumental Good
Good as a means of achieving something else or some other end.
Intrinsic Good
Good in ITSELF.
Examples of Ultimate Good
Food, opportunity to travel, sex, gadgets, fame, honor and wealth.
Eudaimonia
Living well and doing well; happiness or welfare, human flourishing or prosperity.
Eudaimonia - Happiness
The ultimate end of human action.
Eudaimonia: Uniquely Human
Unique to humans because it's a uniquely human function, achieved through a rationally directed life.
Vegetative Soul
Reproduction and growth.
Sensitive Soul
Mobility and sensation.
Rational Soul
Thought and reflection.
Intellectual Virtue
Achieved through education and experience; includes wisdom and understanding.
Moral Virtue
Achieved through habitual practice; includes generosity, temperance, and courage.
The Good Life (Eudaimonia)
A state of being happy, healthy, and prosperous, achieved through virtuous living.
