Dynamic Character
A character, like Jasmine, who undergoes significant internal change or growth throughout the story, demonstrating confidence and firm beliefs.
Protagonist (Jasmine)
The main character, Jasmine, who is determined and intelligent. She would prefer to be an 'undocumented nobody' than 'someone else's somebody'.
Antagonist (Racist Individuals/Society)
The opposing force, represented by society and racist individuals whose presence of speech/observation argues with Jasmine, but some individuals may end up seeing her perspective.
Graffiti
A symbol representing hate speech, racism, and discrimination.
Rally
A symbol of unity, activism, and justice.
Situational Irony
The unexpected response of the school, which quickly covered the graffiti without addressing the underlying racial issue, contradicting expectations for an institution promoting diversity.
Dramatic Irony
The audience knows Jasmine does not have official documents, but other characters at the rally are unaware of this fact.
Theme: Thoughtful Actions
People need to be more thoughtful of their actions, as bad actions can cause others to feel hurt and disrespected, potentially leading to negative outcomes.
Theme: Discrimination and Unity
When people experience discrimination because of stereotypes, it often leads them to unite with others to stand up against injustice.
