Great Saphenous Vein
Formed on the medial aspect of the foot by the union of the dorsal vein of the great toe and the dorsal venous arch, passing anterior to the medial malleolus and joining the femoral vein.
Saphenous Cutdown
A surgical procedure involving a transverse incision to access the great saphenous vein for use as a graft in coronary bypass surgery.
Small Saphenous Vein
Formed on the lateral aspect of the foot by the union of the dorsal vein of the little toe and dorsal venous arch, it empties into the popliteal vein.
Superficial Inguinal Lymph Nodes
Located in the superficial fascia below the inguinal ligament, receiving lymph from the anterior abdominal wall and lower limb.
Fascia Lata
A strong membrane that encircles the thigh's soft tissues, forming a compartment for the thigh muscles.
Saphenous Opening
A gap in the fascia lata that allows the passage of the great saphenous vein and efferent lymphatic vessels.
Iliotibial Tract
A thickening in the fascia lata acting as a shared aponeurosis of the tensor fasciae latae and gluteus maximus muscles.
Intermuscular Septa
Three connective tissue divisions arising from fascia lata that divide the thigh into anterior, medial, and posterior compartments.
Inguinal Ligament
Serves as a flexor retinaculum, retaining structures against the hip joint during thigh flexion.
Femoral Diagnosis
A funnel-shaped extension of abdominal fascia that contains and supports the femoral vessels.
Femoral Ring
The weak area of the anterior abdominal wall which is the usual site for femoral hernia formation.
Femoral Hernia
A protrusion of the abdominal viscera through the femoral ring, more common in women, presenting as a mass in the femoral triangle.
