target: smooth muscle cells around pupil & lens

main effects: constriction of pupil, adjustment of lens for near vision, focus light rays onto back of eye

• near point of accommodation:

  • accommodation: process of the lens changing shape to more football shaped, lens accommodates

  • most clear usually 8-10 cm from eyes

target: cells of lacrimal & salivary glands

main effects: increase in secretions

(sympathetic does some of this too)

target: cardiac muscle cells

main effects: decrease in heart rate

cardiac conduction system: slows heart rate

does not have effect on force of contraction of heart muscle! (only sympathetic does that)
