Element
Pure substance that cannot be broken down into simpler substances and consists of only one type of atom.
compound
Substance formed when two or more elements chemically bond together in fixed proportions.
mixture
A combination of two or more substances that are not chemically bonded they are physically bonded and can be separated by physical means.
Heterogeneouse
A type of mixture in which the components are not uniformly(evenly) distributed, resulting in distinct regions or phases. Examples include salads or sandy water.
Homogeneous
A type of mixture in which the components are evenly distributed, resulting in a single phase. Examples include saltwater and air.
solute
Substance that gets dissolved
solvent
Substance that does the dissolving
Physical Property
characteristic you can observe without changing it
Chemical property
a characteristic of a substance that can only be measured or observed when it undergoes a chemical change to form an entirely different kind of matte
solubility
how well a substance can dissolve into a liquid
conductivity
how easily electricity or heat can travel through a material
Viscotsty
a measure of how thick a fluid is and how slowly or quickly it flows
mallebility
the ability of a material to be hammered, pressed, or rolled into flat sheets or new shapes without cracking or breaking
reactivity
how easily a substance changes or joins with other things to make something new.
pH
a special measuring tool that tells us how acidic or basic (also called alkaline) a liquid is (0-14)
Vaporization
liquid to gas
Evaporization
liquid to gas slowly
Sublimintation
when a solid turns directly into a gas without ever becoming a liquid first. [1]
deposition
gas to solid
Condensation
Gas cools down and turns into a liquid
Exothermic
heat goes out. deposition,condensation,freezing
endothermic
substance absorbs heat during melting,vaporization, and sublimation
Kinetick Energy
ebergy an object has when moving
Find density
D=m/v
FInd Volume
V=M/D
Find mass
M=D*V
