Why are joint innervated ?
They provide sensory function. They provide proprioceptive feedback.
Hiltons Law
The articular nerves supply a joint are usally branches of the nerves which supply the muscles responsible for moving that joint.
What are the 3 nerves that supply the glenohumeral joint?
āāTHINK SALāā- Suprascapular N, Axillary N, and Lateral Pectoral N.
What are the 2 nerves that innervate the acromioclavicular joint?
āāTHINK ALāā- Axillary and Lateral Pectoral N.
What are Bursa ?
They are sac like cavities containing synovial fluid that are located throughout the body. They are located where tendons rub against bone, ligaments, over bony prominences or near joint. They also provide nutrients to joints.
The Bursa associated with the GH joint.
Subacromial, Subdeltoid, Subcoracoid, Subscapular, Infrascapular, and Bicepital
Subacromial Bursa Location and what does it protect ?
Located between the acromion and the coracoacromial ligament superiorly and the tendon of the supraspinatus muscle inferiorly
Protects- suprasinatus tendon
Subdeltoid Bursa Location
Lies between the middle deltoid and the capsule of the GH joint. Can be a continuation of the subacromial bursa or a sepreate distinct bursa.
protects- deltoid under middle deltoid?
Subcoracoid Bursa Location and what does it protect?
Lies deep to the coracobrachialis and short biceps tendons, and superficial to the subscapularis tendon
Protects-short head of the biceps tendon and also decreases friction between these muscles
Subscapular Bursa Location and what does it protect?
Lies between the subscapularis muscle and the chest well
protects-Subscapularis
Infrascapular Bursa Location and what it protects
posterior aspect of the GH jt, lies posteror to the joint capsule, between the capsule and the tendon of the infraspinatus muscle
protects-Infraspinatus
Bicepital Bursa Location and what it protects
lies between the long head of the biceps brachii tendon as it goes through the bicepital groove and transverse humeral liament ( which is the ligament that covers that space.)
protects-the long head of the biceps tendon, helps with friction between that tendon and the transverse humeral ligament
What two bursa are not connected to the GH joint?
The subdeltoid and subacromial
What bursa have a direct communication with the GH joint?
subscapular, infrascapuler, subcoracoid, bicepital
