Capsicum frutescens
The chili species whose fruit extract is tested as a natural insecticide against garden pests such as aphids.
Allium sativum
The scientific name for garlic; its extract is examined for insect-repelling and nematicidal properties.
Natural insecticide
A pest-control substance derived from plants (e.g., chili or garlic) rather than synthetic chemicals.
Aphids
Small sap-sucking insects that damage crops and are the target pest in the chili-garlic insecticide study.
Hot pepper extract
Liquid obtained from Capsicum frutescens fruits; shown to reduce moth, aphid and worm populations in cabbage fields.
Nematicidal
Having the ability to kill or inhibit plant-parasitic nematodes, as observed with certain garlic extracts.
Root-knot nematode (Meloidogyne incognita)
Soil-dwelling parasite that forms galls on plant roots; tested against the garlic product NEMguard® DE.
NEMguard® DE
A formulated garlic-based product evaluated for protecting tomato plants from root-knot nematodes.
Imidacloprid
A systemic chemical insecticide used as a benchmark treatment for controlling aphids on capsicum crops.
Moringa oleifera
The drumstick tree; its leaves and seeds provide antibacterial compounds and natural water-treatment coagulants.
Peperomia pellucida
An herb (pansit-pansitan) with proven antibacterial activity, proposed for use in natural hand disinfectants.
Natural hand disinfectant
A hand-cleansing formulation that uses plant extracts (e.g., moringa, Peperomia) instead of synthetic biocides.
Escherichia coli (E. coli)
A common gram-negative bacterium used to test the efficacy of moringa-based hand sanitizers.
Staphylococcus aureus
A gram-positive pathogen often targeted in antibacterial studies of plant-derived hand sanitizers.
Antibacterial
Capable of inhibiting or destroying bacteria, a key property sought in moringa and Peperomia extracts.
Water turbidity
The cloudiness of water caused by suspended particles; reduced by Moringa seed powder treatment.
Coagulation (water treatment)
Process where fine particles clump together, facilitated by proteins in Moringa seeds to clarify water.
Moringa seed powder
Ground Moringa oleifera seeds used as a natural, low-cost coagulant and antibacterial agent in water purification.
Sedimentation
The settling of coagulated particles to the bottom of a container during water-treatment procedures.
Filtration
The step that removes settled or coagulated particles after treatment with Moringa seed powder.
Point-of-use water purification
Household-level treatment methods (e.g., jars, cloth filters, Moringa seeds) for making contaminated water safer.
Copper wire co-treatment
Addition of copper to Moringa seed purification setups, enhancing removal of pollutants and microbes.
Environmental impact assessment
Evaluation of safety and ecological effects when using chili and garlic extracts as insecticides.
Commercial control
A standard chemical product used as a comparison benchmark in experiments on natural extracts.
Eco-friendly product
An item formulated to minimize harm to humans and the environment, such as plant-based sanitizers or insecticides.
