Heat
A form of energy that flows from warm (high energy) objects into cold (low energy) objects
Specific Heat
The amount of energy required to raise the temperature of 1 gram of a substance by 1 degree celcius
Heat Transfer
the flow of thermal energy from higher temperature objects or environments into lower temperature objects or environements
Calories
Units of heat that measure the energy used by the body and the energy that foods supply to the body (1 cal= 4.184 Joules) 1000 calories = 1Calorie (kcal)
Joules
Units of heat that measure the energy used by the body and the energy that foods supply to the body (4.184 Joules= 1 cal)
Temperature
A measure of how hot or cold something is. A numerical value of hot or cold using the Celsius scale
thermal equilibrium
The state of two or more objects or substances in thermal contact when they have reached a common temperature
Conductor
A material that conducts heat well, easy/fast thermal transfer due to a low Specific Heat
Insulator
A material that does not allow heat to move through it easily, slow to heat or cool, slow to transfer energy to other objects due to high Specific Heat.
Thermal Energy
The total energy of all the particles of an object.
