What is an atom
An atom consists of a nucleus containing protons and neutrons, surrounded by electrons in orbital shells
Where is almost all the mass of an atom?
In the nucleus, because protons and neutrons have approximately 1 relative mass while electrons have negligible mass

The mass of an ion divided by its charge.

An ion containing two or more covalently bonded atoms with an overall charge.
Ionic compound
A compound made from positive and negative ions held together by electrostatic attraction.
Formula unit
The simplest whole-number ratio of ions in an ionic compound
Binary compound
A compound containing only two different elements.

Balancing an equation
