Amendment I (1)

Freedom of religion, speech, press, assembly, and petition. Congress cannot establish a religion or prevent the free exercise of religion. People have the freedoms of speech, press, peaceful assembly, and petitioning the government.

Amendment II (2)

Protects the right of the people to keep and bear arms

Amendment III (3)

Soldiers cannot be housed in a person's home during peacetime without the owners consent,and during wartime only as allowed by law.

Amendment IV (4)

Protects people from unreasonable searches and seizures. Warrants generally require probable cause and must specifically identify the place to be searched and the people or things to be seized.

Amendment V (5)

Protects against double jeopardy and self incrimination. Guaruntees due process of law and requires the government to provide just compensatin when taking private property for public use.

Amendment VI (6)

Guaruntees a speedy and public trial, an impartial jury, information about the charges, the right to confront witnesses, the right to call witnesses, and the right to assistance of an attorney.

Amendment VII (7)

Protects the right to a jury trial in detail federal civil cases.

Amendment VII (8)

Prohibits excessive bail, excessive fines, and cruel and unusual punishments.

Amendment IX (9)

The listing of certain rights in the constitution does not mean that the people do no have other rights. (You have rights that are not listed in the constitution)

Amendment X (10)

Powers not given to the federal government by the constitution, and not prohibited to the states, were reserved to the states or the people.
