axillary artery
major source of blood supply to entire upper limb
continuation of subclavian after rib 1
3 parts
part 1 of axillary artery
proximal to pectoralis major
1 branch (superior thoracic artery)
part 2 of axillary artery
posterior to pectoralis minor
2 branches (thoraco-acromial and lateral thoracic arteries)
third part of axillary artery
distal to axillary artery
3 branches (subscapular and anterior and posterior circumflex humeral arteries)
superior thoracic artery
arises from first part of axillary artery
supplies superior regions of medial and axillary walls
thoraco-acromial artery
arises from second part of axillary artery
penetrates clavipectoral fascia
supplies anterior axillary wall and related regions
lateral thoracic artery
arises from second part of axillary artery
supplies medial and lateral anterior walls of axilla (and in females breast)
subscapular artery
arises from third part of axillary artery
supplies posterior wall of axilla (supraspinatus and infraspinatus)
2 branches (circumflex scapular and thoracodorsal arteries)
circumflex scapular artery
branch of subscapular artery
passes through triangular fossa and enters infraspinatus fossa
thoracodorsal artery
branch of subscapular artery
goes to inferior angle of scapula
anterior circumflex humeral artery
arises from third part of axillary artery
supplies anterior glenohumeral joint and head of humerus
posterior circumflex humeral artery
arises from third part of axillary artery
supplies surgical neck of humerus, glenohumeral joint, and surrounding muscles
brachial artery
arises as continuation of axillary artery at lower border of teres major
divides into radial and ulnar arteries distal to elbow
profunda brachii artery
largest branch of brachial artery
supplies muslces adjacent to elbow
basilic vein
originates from medial side of dorsal venous network of hand
drains posterolateral hand and forearm
becomes axillary vein
cephalic vein
originates over anatomical snuffbox
drains posterior and lateral hand, forerm, and arm
drains into axillary vein
median cubital vein
connects basilic and cephalic veins in anterior elbow along roof of cubital fossa
paired brachial veins
drain into either superior basilic or inferior axillary
axillary vein
continuation of basilic vein at lower border of teres major
becomes subclavian at rib 1
posterior interosseous artery
branch off common interosseous
descends to supply structures of posterior forearm
