Timbergen’s Experiment (Stickleback)
An example of a fixed action pattern. A stickleback fish will innately attack anything with a red belly.
Konrad Lorenz (Imprinting)
An example of imprinting, a learned behavior. The goslings would imprint on the first thing that moved and think that they are that object.
Timbergen’s Experiment (Bees)
An example of spatial learning and cognitive maps. The bees would recognize where their hives were based on the surrounding structures. If people removed those structures and placed them elsewhere, the bees would think their hives are still near the structures.
Pavlovs Dog
AN example of associative learning, specifically classical conditions. A dog will associate the ringing of a bell with food and begin to salivate.
B.F. Skinner
An example of associative learning, specifically operant conditioning. The mouse would pull a lever for food and associate that behavior with a reward (food)
