What is mitosis?
Mitosis is the process by which a eukaryotic cell divides its nucleus and contents to produce two identical daughter cells, each with the same number of chromosomes as the original cell.
What is the first phase of mitosis?
prophase
What is the second phase of mitosis
metaphase
What is the third phase of mitosis?
anphase
what is the fourth phase of mitosis?
telophase
What is it called when the cytoplasm seperates into two daughter cells
cytokinesis
what is it called when Chromatin condenses into visible chromosomes (each with 2 sister chromatids)
prophase
what is it called when Chromosomes line up at the metaphase plate (center of the cell)
Spindle fibers attach to centromeres
metaphase
What is it called when Sister chromatids are pulled apart to opposite poles of the cell
Each chromatid is now considered a separate chromosome
anaphase
what is it called when Chromosomes begin to uncoil back into chromatin
Nuclear envelopes reform around the two sets of chromosomes
Spindle fibers break down
telophase
Chromatin
Chromatin - uncoiled DNA in the nucleus
Chromosome
Chromosome - condensed DNA, visible during mitosis
Sister chromatids
Sister chromatids - identical halves of a duplicated chromosome
Sister chromatids
Sister chromatids - identical halves of a duplicated chromosome
Spindle fibers
Spindle fibers - structures that help pull chromatids apart
Centrioles
Centrioles - structures in animal cells that organize spindle fibers
