The heart contracts twice,
One to the body one to the lungs
Blood is not one type of cell, but
a mixture of cells
How many Chambers does the heart have?
4
What are the top sections of the heat called?
The atriums
What are the bottom Chambers of the heart called?
The ventricles
The artery and veins in the left side are called
The vein going in to the atrium is called the pulmonary vein, and the artery going out of the ventricle is called the aorta
The artery and veins on the right side are called
The vein going into the atrum is the vena cava, the artery coming out of the ventricle is the pulmonary artery
When describing the heart, the sides are
Switched over, eg what’s on the left in a diagram is actualy on the left
To get from the atrium to the ventricles without backward flow, the blood goes though
Valves
The pulmonary artery carries
Deoxygenated blood from the right side of the heart to the lungs
The pulmonary vein carries
Oxygenated blood from the lungs to the left side of the heart
The aorta carries
Oxygenated blood from the left side of the heart to the body
The vena cava carries
deoxygenated blood from the body to the right side of the heart
What does the body do with blood
Use it for respiration
What do the lungs do with blood
Oxygenate it
The left side of the heat has thicker larger muscles because
It requires a stronger push to get all the way around the body
Arteries go
Away from the heart
Veins go
Into the heart
Why do we need valves to prevent backward flow
They prevent oxygenated and deoxygenated blood from mixing, which would be inefficient
The blood curcuit is
infinite
