Hermaphrodite
An organism that has both male and female reproductive organs.
Stamens
The male reproductive part of a flower, consisting of an anther and a filament.
Cross pollination
The transfer of pollen from an anther to the stigma of a different plant.
Double fertilisation
A process in flowering plants where one sperm fertilizes the egg, and another sperm fuses with two polar nuclei to form endosperm.
Seed dispersal
The process by which seeds are spread away from the parent plant to reduce competition and encourage plant diversity.
Nectar
A sugary liquid produced by plants to attract pollinators.
Ovary
The part of the flower that contains the ovules and develops into fruit after fertilization.
Petals
Colored parts of a flower that attract pollinators.
Importance of seed dispersal
Self-pollination
The transfer of pollen from the anther to the stigma of the same flower or the same plant.
Pollination
The process of transferring pollen from male structures to female structures in flowers.
Wind pollination
Pollination that occurs when pollen is carried by the wind, typically seen in grasses and trees.
Insect pollination
Pollination that occurs when insects, such as bees and butterflies, transfer pollen from one flower to another.
