Modal Model (Atkinson & Shiffrin, 1968)
Memory systems separated into units based on the duration of information storage.
Sensory Memory
Keeps information for a few seconds.
Short-Term Memory
Keeps information for about 15-20 seconds, but it can be kept in mind for longer by rehearsal.
Long-Term Memory
Can store information for decades.
Persistence of Vision
Continued perception of a visual stimulus even after it is no longer present.
Working Memory (Baddeley és Hitch, 1974)
A limited-capacity system for temporary storage and manipulation of information for complex tasks such as comprehension, learning, and reasoning.
Dorsolateral Prefrontal Cortex (DLPFC)
Performance on the delayed response task drops due to lesions in this area.
Habituation
The intensity of the withdrawal can decrease.
Sensitization
The intensity of the withdrawal can increase.
Classical Conditioning
Involves the formation of an association between two stimuli (unconditioned stimulus and conditioned stimulus).
Operant Conditioning
Based on an association between an action and a stimulus with hedonic value (reward or punishment).
