Plot
The sequence of events in a story showing what happens from beginning to end.
Exposition
The part of the plot that introduces the characters, setting, and background information.
Rising Action
Events that build excitement and lead up to the climax of the story.
Climax
The most exciting or most important part of the story.
Falling Action
Events that occur often after the climax.
Resolution
The ending of the story where the outcome is established.
Literature
Written or oral work that expresses ideas, emotions, beliefs, traditions, and experiences of people, reflecting the culture and history of a society.
Philippine Literature
Literary works created by Filipinos in various languages, such as Pilipino, English, and regional languages.
Pre-colonial Period
The period before the year 1521 characterized by rich oral literature passed down through generations, focused on traditions and customs.
Myths
Pre-colonial stories used to explain the origin of the world and natural phenomena.
Legends
Stories about the origin of places, plants, or things.
Folktales
Stories intended to entertain and teach lessons.
Epic
Long narrative poems detailing the adventures of heroes.
Proverbs (Salawikain)
Wise sayings that are used to teach values.
Riddles (Bugtong)
Statements that challenge thinking skills.
Spanish Colonial Period
The historical period from 1521 to 1898 which introduced Christianity and formal education.

Known as the "Prince of Tagalog Poet," he wrote the famous Filipino literary masterpiece Florante at Laura.
American Period
The period from 1898 to 1946 where the Americans introduced English as the medium of instruction.
Literary Analysis
The process of carefully examining a literary work to understand its deeper meaning, message, themes, and the author's purpose.
Context
The background information that helps a reader better understand a literary work.
Biographical Context
Context that focuses on the author's life and the experiences that influenced their writing.
Historical Context
Context focusing on the specific time and events happening during the period a work was written.
Sociocultural Context
Context focusing on society and traditions, such as Filipino values like family unity and respect for parents.
