What is a host cell?
an organisms that is infected and has immune system to fight pathogens
What is pathogen?
a disease-causing organisms. Can be prokaryotic, eukaryotic, or virus
What is innate immune system?
general defense, recognizes and blocks some pathogens but it doesn’t remember them. It keeps a barrier to keep pathogens out, cells that can recognize pathogens and kill them, defense mechanisms to surround pathogens and alert host cells, and cleanup crews to get rid of pathogens and mess
What is adaptive immune system?
specified, learns and adapts to fight pathogens it remembers, and it expands over time
What are physical barriers?
they are barriers that prevent molecules from going inside the human body. Includes skin, urination, tears, mucous secretions, and blood brain barrier
What are chemical barriers?
barriers used to kill and hurt pathogens. Includes stomach acid, blood, and microbial factors
