Peace of Paris Treaty (1763)
The treaty signed at the end of the Seven Years' War that restricted the French to functioning only as mere trading centres.
Battle of Bidas (1759)
The battle in which Mir Jafar was defeated by the British after attempting to intrigue with the Dutch.
Battle of Buxar (1764)
A 1764 battle where the British Company, led by Major Munro, defeated the combined alliance of Mir Qasim, Shuja-ud-Daulah, and Shah Alam II.
1st Treaty of Allahabad (1765)
A treaty signed with the Nawab of Awadh (Shuja-ud-Daulah), requiring him to pay 50 lakh to the British, surrender Allahabad and Kora to Shah Alam II, and convert Awadh into a buffer state.
2nd Treaty of Allahabad (1765)
A treaty with Shah Alam II where he issued a Farman granting Diwani rights of Bengal, Bihar, and Orissa to the Company in exchange for an annual payment of 26 lakh.
Dual System of Administration
An administrative system in Bengal where the Company exercised Diwani functions and held real power, while the Nawab exercised Nizamat functions and bore responsibility for administration.
Najm-ud-Daula
Son of Mir Jafar who succeeded to the throne after Jafar's death on the condition that Defence and Foreign affairs were surrendered to the British Company.
1st Anglo-Mysore War (1767–69)
A war sparked by rivalry over control of the Northern Circars that ended with the Treaty of Madras, in which Hyder Ali maintained an edge over the British.
2nd Anglo-Mysore War (1780–84)
A drawn struggle triggered by the English capture of Mahe that concluded with the Treaty of Mangalore.
3rd Anglo-Mysore War (1790–92)
A war triggered by Tipu's attack on Travancore core that ended with the Treaty of Seringapatnam.
