Aristotle
Defined communication as a process of sending a message to a listener with the aim of persuading.
David Berlo
Defined communication as a process of interaction with the aim of leaving an effect or influence on the recipient.
Dell Hymes
A scholar who stated that communication is not just using language but having the ability to be competent in communication (communicative competence).
Communicative Competence
The knowledge of when, where, and to whom to say something in an appropriate manner.
Idea Formation (Pagbuo ng Ideya)
The first step in the communication process where the sender has an idea or information in mind.
Encoding
The stage where the sender translates an idea into an understandable form, such as words, symbols, or signs.
Sending (Pagpapadala)
The stage where the message is transmitted through a chosen channel, such as face-to-face or text.
Decoding
The stage where the receiver gets the message and gives it meaning or interpretation.
Feedback (Pagtugon)
The reaction or answer sent by the receiver, which makes them the new sender.
Completeness (Kabuuan)
A principle of communication requiring all necessary information to be present, addressing the 5Ws and 1H.
5Ws and 1H
The basic questions (Who, What, When, Where, Why, and How) that must be answered to avoid confusion in communication.
Conciseness (Kaiklian)
Providing the message in the shortest but most significant way by removing repetitive and useless words.
Consideration
Considers the background, level of understanding, culture, and feelings of the listener, often called the 'You-attitude'.
Concreteness (Katiyakan / Kongkreto)
Using specific facts, data, and clear examples instead of general or vague statements to build credibility.
Courtesy (Pagkamagalang)
The principle of using a respectful, honest, and positive tone while avoiding judgmental or aggressive language.
Clearness (Kalinawan)
The use of simple words and ensuring only one clear goal or idea is conveyed in each sentence.
Correctness (Kawastuhan)
The principle of ensuring proper grammar, punctuation, spelling, and factual accuracy in the information given.
Veritas
The value of Truth; refers to ethical and honest expression in communication.
Unitas
The value of Unity; using communication as a tool to build relationships with others.
Caritas
The value of Charity or love, specifically mentioned in the context of correcting others with kindness and understanding.
