Public enterprise
Businesses that are owned by the government locally or nationally (i.e. Dublin Bus).
Private enterprises
Private enterprises are owned by individual people or shareholders and want to gain profit (i.e. Amazon).
Non-profit enterprise
A business that focuses on social or cultural aspects rather than money (i.e. GAA teams).
Limited company
A business that ensures the owner doesn’t lose more than what they put into it if it fails.
Business regulation
Controlling a business so that it’s sustainable, ethical and safe.
Governance
The system of rules, practices and processes used to direct and control a business.
Audit
An independent examination of a part of a business’s systems to make sure they follow good practices.
Corporate governance
The systems and processes used to manage a company, includes the Board of Directors and a Code of Ethics.
