A set of vocabulary flashcards covering various editing and proofreading marks and their meanings as described in the lecture notes.

capitalize

A proofreading mark indicating a letter should be made uppercase, such as in the example "lake tahoe".

make it lowercase

A proofreading mark used to indicate a letter should not be capitalized, such as the letter "B" in "Bus".

A proofreading mark indicating a spelling mistake, such as in the word "clowdy".

add a period

A mark signaling that a period must be inserted at the end of a sentence, such as after the word "holiday".

delete (remove)

A mark used to indicate that text should be removed, such as the repeated word "the" in the phrase "the the".

add a word

Indicated by a caret symbol to show where a word should be inserted, such as adding the word "pups" to a sentence.

add a comma

A proofreading mark indicating where a comma needs to be placed, such as to separate "peas", "corn", and "squash" in a list.

reverse words or letters

A mark showing that the order of characters or words should be swapped, such as changing "bed kelp" to "kelp bed".

add an apostrophe

A mark used to specify where an apostrophe is missing, such as in the word "childs".

add quotation marks

Marks used to indicate the beginning and end of spoken text, such as in the phrase "Why can't I go?".

A proofreading symbol used to indicate that a space should be inserted between two words, such as in "twobooks".

close the space

A mark indicating that an unnecessary space between letters or words should be removed, such as in "soft ball".

begin a new paragraph

A proofreading mark used to indicate that a new paragraph should start at a specific point in the text.
