Atom
The smallest unit of an element that still maintains the property of that element.
Atomic Level
The level of organization involving atoms, such as Carbon, Hydrogen, and Oxygen, which are the smallest units of an element that maintain its properties.
Molecular Level
The level of organization where atoms combine to form molecules with properties entirely different from the individual atoms, such as Water, DNA, and Carbohydrates.
Macromolecules
Large biomolecules, such as proteins, lipids, nucleic acids, and carbohydrates, formed by the joining of small biomolecules.
Organelle Level
The level of organization where biomolecules assemble into sub-cellular structures with specific roles, such as the nucleus, ribosomes, and mitochondria.
Cellular Level
The level of organization consisting of cells, which are the smallest units of life, enclosed by a membrane or cell wall, and often specialized in function.
Tissue Level
The level of organization consisting of groups of similar cells working together on a specific task or function, such as muscle, epithelial, and connective tissues.
Organ
A structure made up of two or more tissues organized to carry out a particular function within an organism.
Organ System
A group of organs with related functions that work together to perform complex body processes.
Organism
An individual living entity composed of several organ systems working together in harmony.
