Swan neck

hyperextension of PIP from Volar plate laxity.

Boutonniere

PIP flexion with DIP hyperextension due to central slip extensor tendon
injury

Trigger Finger

hickening of the flexor tendon sheath which causes sticking of tendon when
patient tries to flex the finger, expect pain to palpation of A1 pulley

Mallet Finger

Rupture of extensor tendon distally.

Dupuytrens

contracture of palmar fascia.

How does therapy help a dupuytrens deformity?

Therapy cannot help reduce contracting tissue only reduce muscle and joint tightness caused by the contracture

Drop Wrist

radial nerve palsy generally caused by prolonged compression.

How is Drop Wrist treated?

Treat with time and functional splinting

Volar plate injury from traumatic PIP dislocation - what does avulsion of the volar plate sometimes take with it?

A piece of bone (not a true fracture)

How is a Volar plate injury from traumatic PIP dislocation treated?

Treat with dorsal block splint or buddy tape for 6 weeks

How is Mallet Finger treated?

Treat with full DIP extension for 6 weeks

How is a Swan Neck Deformity treated?

Requires PIP extension block splint
