Groups
The vertical rows on the periodic table, the reactivity of the groups goes from strongest to weakest to strongest(excluding the noble gases)
Periods
The horizontal rows on the periodic table, each row represents a different valence shell
Alkali Metals
A group containing all metals which are the most reactive at giving away electrons
Alkaline Earth Metals
A group containing all metals which are the second most reactive at giving away electrons
Halogens
A group containing all gases which are the most reactive at receiving electrons
Noble Gases
A group containing all gases which are stable and not reactive at all
Transition Metals
A section of the periodic table that contains all metals which are unique in the way that they can have one of multiple valence charges
