Ionic Bonding
A type of chemical bonding in which electrons are transferred from one element to another, producing oppositely charged ions held together by electrostatic attraction.
Covalent Bond
A chemical bond formed by the sharing of electrons between atoms.
Valence Electron
An electron located in the last or outermost energy level of an atom.
Electronegativity
The ability of an atom to attract an electron toward itself.
Polar Covalent Bond
A covalent bond characterized by the unequal sharing of electrons between two atoms, resulting in an unequal distribution of electric charge.
Non-Polar Covalent Bond
A covalent bond in which electrons are shared equally between two atoms.
Dipole
A polarized object or molecule that features a partial positive charge on one side and a partial negative charge on the other side.
