FDR's Second New Deal Programs

SSA (Social Security Act)

Program that created a pension for the elderly, unemployment insurance, and aid to dependent children/the disabled

NLRA (National Labor Relations Act)

Program that gave the right to every worker to join a union and it created the National Labor Relations Board that would investigate claims of unfair labor practices

HCA (Holding Company Act)

Program that broke up the 13 utility companies that controlled 75% of the nation’s electric power

WTA (Wealth Tax Act)

Program that raised tax rates on the wealthy and corporations

Banking Act

Program that strengthened the power of the Federal Reserve Board and the power it held over its member banks

REA (Rural Electrification Administration)

Program that brought electric power to rural, isolated areas

NYA (National Youth Administration)

Program that provided work and guidance to the nation’s youth (high school and college students)

WPA (Works Progress Administration)

Program that created as many jobs as possible as quickly as possible in public works

FSA (Farm Security Administration)

Program designed to help tenant farmers, sharecroppers, and farm laborers; it also paid artists and photographers to capture images of the struggle of farmers throughout the country

Wagner Act

Also known as the National Labor Relations Act; made it clear that all employees had the right to join a union and granted unions the right to collectively bargain
