I've never given much thought to which meal is my favourite. In my view, all meals are important for good health, and I eat them all. It comes naturally to me. For breakfast, I usually have a bowl of oatmeal with milk, along with a few slices of bread. For lunch, I usually go for convenience food rather than fast food—something quick and easy to prepare, such as frozen dumplings, wontons, or tangyuan. Sometimes, I also heat up leftovers from the night before. When it comes to dinner, that's usually my main meal of the day. If I have the time and circumstances allow, I like to make it a proper meal—ideally a few different dishes and a soup, with some fish or meat, eggs, and plenty of vegetables. I try to keep it well-balanced and nutritious. When it comes to favourite meals, a saying comes to mind. It goes: ‘Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, and dinner like a pauper.” Start your day with a good breakfast. Don't skip it. After going all night without food, your body needs energy and nutrients to kick-start the day. Make sure your breakfast is filling—ideally a hearty meal with some meat, eggs, and a few vegetables. Convincing people to make lunch the main meal of the day is easier said than done.

It’s better to say, "You go ahead."

You can say "You can go," but in this situation it may sound as though you're giving the other person permission to leave rather than thanking them. If you're declining their gesture and want them to stop waiting for you, native English speakers are more likely to say:

  • "You go ahead."

  • "No, after you."

  • "Please go ahead."

  • "Thanks, you can let the doors close."

If someone has already held the lift door for you and you get in, the most natural response is simply:

  • "Thanks for holding the door."

  • "Thanks for waiting."

  • "Thanks, I appreciate it."
